Decision not to field candidate in Lilong AC is decision of central leadership: CM
IMPHAL: In a big morale booster to the ruling BJP, some prominent politicians including Oinam Nabakishore (former Chief Secretary), who contested the last Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on a Congress ticket, former Minister N Mangi (Kumbi Mangi) and ex-minister A Biren (Jiribam AC) have joined the party on Monday.
Social worker S Kebisana of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC has also joined the saffron party too. The new faces in the party were warmly received by Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president Prof S Tikendra at a low key function held at the Chief Minister Durbar Hall.
Speaking at the gathering, Chief Minister N Biren said that several individuals including prominent persons and politicians are joining the party as they trust the various developmental works and ideology of the party. The party takes the upcoming by-polls in five Assembly constituencies seriously and as such party karyakartas should work with dedication to ensure win for all the party candidates in the by-polls.
He said the party will put in all possible efforts to win an absolute majority in the 2022 State Assembly election.
Explaining as to why the party failed to field any candidate in Lilong Assembly constituency, the chief minister said that the decision was taken by the Central and state leaders. As a Chief Minister, he has nothing to comment on the decision whether to field candidates or not as it is not his prerogative. People are well aware of the sacrifices made by Lilong MLA Md Abdul Nasir to save the present Government at a critical time, the chief minister said and added that the aspirations of the people of Lilong AC will be fulfilled by the Government.
“We are loyal soldiers of BJP, the biggest political party in the world. Being a loyal soldier, we have to accept and honour the decision of the higher-ups of the party. Having considered all the pros and cons, central and state leaderships decided not to field candidates in the constituency”, the Chief Minister said.
“I appealed to the BJP supporters in Lilong AC to work in line with the decision and aspirations of the central leaders. It is quite unbecoming of a real BJP Karyakarta to protest and raise voices against the decision of the high command. If we truly love and respect the party, we have to follow the decision of the high command,” maintained the Chief Minister.
In a democratic country, it is the people who decide the political power. It is the law courts that decide who violates the constitutional provisions. The present state Government under the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi could bring good governance in the state. The present Government could give the real taste of democracy and good governance by introducing missions like ‘Go to Village’ and ‘Go to Hill’. Law and order situation has improved in the state and people are freely roaming without apprehension, he said.
There is enough testimony and photographic evidence proving the various development works taken up by the Government, he said.
Former Chief Secretary Oinam Nabakishore said that the present Government has been successful in bringing about infrastructural and inclusive development in every nook and corner of the state. As such, he decided to join the party so that he could participate and share views on the development initiatives of the Government.
Former Minister N Mangi said that he did not leave BJP because of the fact that he either disliked party principles or felt dissatisfied with the party, but political circumstances compelled him to leave the party.
He said that he decided to join the party again so that he can work with the Government for development of the state, terming his re-joining the party as another homecoming.
CM Biren reacts to MLA Ranjit
Chief Minister N Biren has tongue lashed the opposition Congress, terming it a party that fails to come out with a constructive idea.
The Chief minister stated this while strongly reacting to Congress MLA K Ranjit who, during a function in Kakching, claimed that Congress party could destabilize the BJP coalition anytime.
Talking to reporters on the sideline of an inspection visit to the ongoing construction of Assembly guest house at Majorkhul, Chief Minister said that BJP formed the Government with public blessings and support. The present Government is going in hand with public mendate and as such none can destabilize the Government.
Congress has been making all possible efforts to destabilize the Government since its inception but all their efforts went flat. They are doing what an opposition is supposed to do while we are doing what a ruling party is supposed to do.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand, who accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection visit, said that construction of the Assembly Guest house began since 2017 as the state badly needed such a standard Guest house to accommodate the visiting MLAs/Ministers from the outside and state’s MLAs and minsters as well.
When MLAs and ministers of the state visited other states, they are properly accommodated in standard Assembly Guest house. The state is still lacking in such Guest house. We strongly felt the need to construct such Guest house and began construction with available funds from time to time, added the Speaker.
