IMPHAL: Stating that the state has witnessed the most unfortunate event in which politicians, judge, lawyer, and police have been found involved in a drug seizure case as a police officer Th Brinda had mentioned in her affidavit, firebrand politician Okram Joy has demanded the Governor, on virtue of being the constitutional head of the state, to intervene in the unfolding development of the Lhukhosei drug case and apprise the Centre about the situation in the state.
Addressing reporters at his Kakwa residence, the veteran politician said that at a time when the BJP led state Government is supposedly waging a war against drugs, an Imphal based daily The Morning Bell recently published a news based on the affidavit filed by MPS Officer Th Brinda who exposed the high profile individuals who are allegedly linked to drug lord Lhukhosei Zou. The woman police officer alleged the involvement of politicians including the Chief Minister, police officer, judge, lawyer and so on in the infamous drug case. There is literally no one who is not involved, the veteran lawmaker said.
The case which the tiny state is witnessing today is the first of its kind in the political history of the country and the world that can be in internal issue. Here arises a question as to who can be trusted when the responsible politicians, Police officers and even judicial officers and lawyers are involved in the case. It is the most unfortunate event, O Joy said.
During the tenure of a Congress Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, the airport drug haul case was handed over to the CBI. Even as Chief Minister N Biren assured that whoever involved in drug cases will not be spared, Congress party demanded him to step down on moral ground. Resignation of Biren from post of Chief Minister to ensure justice delivery is something that cannot be expected. BJP is ruling the country and the high profile persons namely the Chief Minister N Biren, BJP vice president Ashnikumar, drug kingpin and former ADC chairman Lukhosei Zou,, Mrs Olice etc as Brinda mentioned in her affidavit are all BJP leaders. Justice for the drug case will be a mirage as long as Biren continues to sit on the Chief Minister chair, he said.
He demanded the Governor to intervene in the issue by exercising her discretionary powers and authority as empowered by the constitution. It is the sole responsibility of the Governor to defend the constitution and law in the larger public interest. “In past, we saw the Governor deviating from her constitutional responsibility, this time I strongly urged her to intervene in the issue and send a detailed report to the President, the PMO Office and the Union Home Minister detailing the crucial situation where politicians, police officers and judicial officer are allegedly involved in a drug case”, Joy demanded.
He went on to say that he would be submitting a memorandum to the Governor tomorrow.
If the Government of India truly loves the people of the state then why she should not want justice to be delivered to the people. It is the responsibility of the Centre to oust Biren from the Chief Minister post to deliver justice, maintained Joy.
