NUCO appeals government to look into violence arising from NSU issue

Imphal: The Northern United Clubs’ Organization (NUCO) has appealed the state government to look into the violence currently happening at the construction site of National Sports University, Haraothel and bring a solution at the earliest before the violent turn into ugly incidents.

In a release of NUCO, its general secretary Th. Johnson Mangang stated that the recent vandalization of Kounu Lairembi located at Leimakhong Chingmang, threatening the Meitei, Meitei Pangal communities residing at Leimakhong Chingmang and injuring people of the area is like an act of communal and condemned the same.

NUCO appealed the government to take up precautionary measures for the people of Leimakhong Chingmang and not to back down and create communal violence.

Stating that since early period, people from different communities and tribes have been surviving with love in Manipur, the organisation called for everyone to calm down and to avoid violence. Supposed if the incident turns into communal violence then it will be our own lost, we all have to understand and know this, NUCO said and appealed for peaceful co-existence in the state.

The state government, CSOs, Church leaders and police department should perform a good responsibility at the best level for the same, the organisation said.

With regards to the site of the NSU whether it should be Imphal West or Kangpokpi, the NUCO appealed the government and CSOs of the state and even religious groups to help bring an amicable solution.
