Noted teacher Samuel Khumlo no more, laid to rest

Chandel: Samuel Khumlo, a noted Physical Education Teacher (PET) of the Maha Union Govt Higher Secondary School (MUGHSS), Chandel was laid to rest on Tuesday after he passed away a day earlier at his home in Hnatham, Chandel. He was 69.

His is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Popularly known as S Khumlo, he served at MUGHSS from August 5, 1978 until his retirement on February 28, 2017. During his reign, he was instrumental not only for his contribution in the field of physical education but that he was also instrumental in upgrading MUGHS to a higher secondary school.

He also served as the chairman of the MUGHS’s Management and Development Committee (SMDC) from  2002- 2010 and he will be widely remembered for instilling a sense of discipline and sportsmenship among the youth of Chandel.

Apart from his teaching profession, Samuel rendered selfless service to the community at large, relatives, friends, clan and villagers. During his life time He had also held several positions including the Chairman of Maha Area Chief Association (MACA) from 1997 to 2002, Convenor, of Kuki-Naga Peace Committee in 1997, Chief of Hnatham Village and President of Mate Chapa Organization (MCO). He also served as Church Deacon, Treasurer, Auditor and chairman of church building construction committee.

He was laid to rest on Tuesday in the presence of family, friends and well-wishers.
