No question of Change of Guard in Congress party: MPCC

TMB Report

IMPHAL: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly rebutted a media report about the possible replacement of MPCC president and CLP leader, terming it baseless and bid to undermine the party organization.

MPCC Secretary (Media) W Ratankumar Singh in a statement clarified that the recent visit of AICC in charge of Manipur and former Union minister Bhakta Charan das was related to the by-election recently conducted in four Assembly constituencies of the state and had nothing to do with any change of guard in the party organization.

The media report depicting a gap/misunderstanding between the party organization and the legislators is a speculated report.

Under the incumbent president Moiranthem Okendro, efforts are being made in full swing to strengthen the party from the grass root level. Congress lost the recently concluded by-poll due to the heavy muscle and money power unleashed by the ruling BJP. People are well aware of it. The party could bravely fought the by-poll with support from the people, it added.

Regarding defection some Congress MLAs to BJP, it said that the MLAs switched allegiance to BJP for their personal benefit and aspirations.

The party reacted to the report about some congress MLAs failing to attend party office and abstaining from party activities, citing it baseless and an attempt to put the party in the wrong light.

Stating that efforts have been made to strengthen the party, the MPCC Secretary appealed to the people not to fall prey to such speculated and fabricated report. The party has been working hard for the welfare and protection of the people. There is no internal feud within the party, it said and appealed to the people to extend unflinching support to the effort of the Congress party to bring a good governance in the state.
