No pressure on IOs in Lhukhosei drug case, allegations baseless: Police Department

IMPHAL: The Manipur Police Department has clarified that there was no pressure from any quarter to the investigation officers in the case connected with the drug haul from Lhukhosei Zou, former chairman of ADC, Chandel in 2018.

In a press release issued by the PRO of the department on Tuesday, it was stated that the IOs did not received any pressure during investigation of case FIR No.43 (6)2018 NAB_PS U/S 22 (b) 22(c) 25/29/60(3) ND &PS Act and 27 Arms Act in which Lhukhosei Zou, the then ADC chairman, Chandel was arrested. After thorough investigation, charge sheet of the case was submitted as laid down under the provision of law on October 6 2018, it added.

The clarification was made apropos to the news article “Brinda exposes high profile person nexus with drug kingpin Lhukhosei, Says CM strongly pressurized her to release the drug kingpin” in The Morning Bell, and a report in another newspaper on their July 14, 2020 publications. 

The Manipur police department maintained that it has been working sincerely and relentlessly in the ongoing war against drugs. Right from time of arrest of accused person of the mentioned case till submission of charge sheet it has been taking up all requisite legal action to ensure that all the involved accused person are booked in accordance with the law, the release stated.

The department asserted that the allegation leveled by Th. Brinda as published in the local dailies are totally baseless and intended to malign the image of the officers whose names have been mentioned. It also mentioned that the timely submission of the charge sheet and other legal action taken up in the course of investigation of the case were only possible through a professional and dedicated approach adopted by the police department.

Signing off, the press release added that Manipur Police will continue to fight against the menace of drugs in the state of Manipur sincerely.
