IMPHAL: Health Minister L Jayentakumar said that the state has no any confirmed case for Coronavirus till date, citing that all the nine samples sent for lab test has been confirmed negative.
Giving clarification to the policy cut motions raised by Opposition members in the demand of Health department, the Minister said that Coronavirus is a deadly disease causing global alarm and advanced countries are conducting research on it. Till date, no ultimate solution is available. Taking up precautionary measures like proper hygiene, sanitation is the only means to avoid from the disease. State health department has already deployed health staffs at entry points like Moreh, Jiribam, Mao, Pherzawl and Imphal international airport etc. to screen the visitors entering the state. With the increasing global spread of the virus, Manpower at Imphal airport have been strengthened with adequate equipment.
On Bio-medical waste management, the minister said that hospitals in the state generate around 125 MT bio-medical waste a year. To manage the Bio-medical waste, there is a Common Biomedical waste treatment facility centre inside Shija Hospital complex. Following directive from the national green Tribunal, state government is planning to shift the Centre to Lamdeng in Imphal west. Government has got around one acre land at Lamdeng area to construct the centre.
The minister said that financial constraint has crippled the government in improving health care sector in the state.
Regarding the opposition’s charges on absence of Doctors, Nurses at their posting places in remote areas, the minister admitted that it has been a habit of the Government employees to take Salary without performing their duty. Not only Health department, employees of other departments are reluctant to go to their posting places. In view of the Coronavirus outbreak, state health directorate had earlier issued an order directing the employees not to leave station. However, most Nurses seem to have defied the order considering it directorate level notice, the minister said and assured that a notification from the Secretariat will be issued directing the health employees not to leave station.
