No confirmed case of Coronavirus in state, says Health Director; appeals people not to Panic

IMPHAL: State Health Director Dr. K Rajo on Wednesday stated that there is no any confirmed case of Coronavirus in the state and appealed the public not to panic. He also stated that screening of travellers at Imphal airport began from January 6 and their details, history have been recorded too.

Reiterating that State health Department is striving hard towards preventing possible outbreak of Coronavirus in the state by taking up precautionary measures, State Health Director K Rajo appealed the people not get panicked stating that there is no any confirmed case of infectious disease.

The director who came to Lamphel Sana Keithel to attend a function told this to reporters on Wednesday.

Dr Rajo said that according to WHO report, Coronavirus has claimed as many as 80 persons and 2794 persons have been confirmed Coronavirus positive. It is speculated the fatal virus might have affected around 5794 persons, he added.

Elaborating about the precautionary measures state health department is currently taking up to prevent the outbreak of the virus, the director said medical teams have been deployed at Imphal international airport, entry points at border areas like Moreh, Behiang, Mao and Jiribam. The medical teams have been directed to conduct hectic screening of any Manipur bound travellers to detect if they are carriers of the infectious disease, he said.

Following instruction from the Centre, Dr Rajo also said that screening of the travellers at Imphal airport using infrared thermometer have began frum January 6. Details and history of any travellers are recorded. Department has prepared necessary medicine and Equipment like personal protective Mask to retaliate the outbreak of the disease anytime, he added.
