NGOs take part in fight against COVID-19 in Manipur

Imphal: The Wangjing Tentha Farmers Development Association which is known as “WATEFADEAS”, a National Awardees NGO of the Government of India, is actively getting involved to fight against COVID-19 in Manipur.

It has collaborated with Khongjom War Memorial Trust Along with Local Youth Clubs, Mahila Mandala, Social Workers and Elected Members of Gram Panchayat. The Diamond Radio first Community Radio Station functioning in the state of Manipur is the Media Partner.

Under the Joint Venture of the above Organisation, the group targets to fight against COVID-19 in the area of selected 12 villages of ThoubaI District namely Wangjing, Tentha, Tekcham, Sapam, Phundrei, Langathel, Papal, Chingtham, Khongjom, Kairembikhok, Mairenkhul and Langthabal Khunou.

Distribution of Hand Senitizer, spraying of Sodiumchloride, Mass Awareness Programme through Diamond Radio with expert Medical team, Social Activists, District Administration were some of the key activities during the period lockdown. The organization jointly decided to distribute essential commodities. The concerned authorities of ThoubaI District Administration has issued curfew permit to the two vehicle for using free distribution of essential commodities to the said twelve villages. These villages are mostly affected due to the announcement of 2nd Phase/extension of Lockdown in the Country.

The Chairman of Diamond Radio and Former Minister, Moirangthem Hemanta flagged of the vehicle carrying essential commodities containing potato, onion and salt for distribution to 11,500 household of the twelve villages.

Speaking to the media, Hemanta expressed that the government alone cannot take up all the activities successfully without the co-operation of non-government sectors. The Government machineries are very strong just like the right leg of a person but the strong right leg alone cannot climb the hills jumping and jumping. Hence he instructed to NGO volunteers to extend co-operation and suggestion to the government from time to time for successful implementation of any government programme in the state as a whole without any bias.

The Government and non-governmental organizations are just like the right and left legs of a person to climb up to the top of hills, he stated.
