Thoubal: At least three books written by two different writers were released on Friday at the hall of Khorirol Sanglen, Wangjing, Thoubal district. The books were released in two different sessions with formal functions.
On the first session, “Nazrul Islam gi Seireng Khara”, a poetry book of translation from original Bengali poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam into Manipuri by Jamuna Lairenjam was released.The book was published by Sanasam Bhorot on behalf of the Khorirol Sandoklup Wangjing.
“Najrul Islam gi Seireng Khara” is a collection of 30 selected poems from Kazi Nazrul Islam’s masterpiece “Sanchita” written in original Bengali. With the publication of the translation book, Manipuri readers now have the opportunities of tasting Nazrul Islam, a revolutionary poet’s famous lines in their own mother tounge.
The first session was attended by Nongmaithem Kirankumar, Convenor, Manipuri Language Advisory Committee, Sahitya Academy New Delhi attended as Chief Guest and Tongbram Babulal, President of Khorirol Sandoklup Wangjing attended as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Moirangthem Rajendra, President, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District branch, Kartik Maiba, President, Sahitya Yokahtlup Tentha and Khundongbam Gunamani, President, Ningol Khut Manipur Wangjing were present as Guests of Honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Jamuna said that she decided to translate some of the poems from Nazarul Islam’s masterpiece “Sanchita” mainly because of her passion of presenting the gifts of Nazrul Islam’s famous lines into the field of Manipuri literature by translating them into mother tounge.
As a part of the event, eminent critic Dr.Sanasam Nabadweep talked minutely about the book.
Jamuna Lairenjam, a retired Headmistress of a Manipur Government High School, was born at Chandpur, Cachar District, Assam in 1960. After her marriage with Ningthou Naoriya, a college lecturer and writer from Tentha, Thoubal District, she served as a teacher for many years and retired as a Head Mistress.
She learned Bengali medium in her childhood days. She also learned Hindi, Sanskrit and Assami languages. She used to write and publish poems in college magazines. The translation book “Nazrul Islam gi Seireng Khara” (Some Poems of Nazrul Islam) was her first complete version of translation work. Moreover, “Nang na Chatkhraba Tungda (After Dear Departed) ” and “Ganga gi Echel” (Torrents Of Ganga) were two poetry books which had been added earlier to the granary of Manipuri literature by Jamuna Lairenjam .
The writer was honoured and awarded earlier by International Bengali Channel NRB News 24.Com for translating poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam into Manipuri.
On the second session, two books of plays (dramas) both written by Shanto M, “Tabunungdagi” and “Malla Malla Leinungshi” were released.
Nongmaithem Kirankumar, Convenor, Manipuri Language Advisory Committee, Sahitya Academy New Delhi, Tongbram Babulal, President, Khorirol Sandoklup Wangjing and Moirangthem Rajendra, President, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District branch attended the event as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Renowned critic Nabakumar Nongmeikappam talked about the two books.
Both the events witnessed the participation of several eminent poets, writers and literary figures of the State.
