IMPHAL: As a part of the nationwide general strike against the Farm Bills by the All India Kisan Sangrash Co-ordination Committee, the Manipur units of the AIKS (both CPM and CPI mass fronts), Agragami Kisan Sabha and other regional peasants’ organisations jointly organised a state level protest meeting at Irawat Bhawan and rally at BT Road Imphal.
According to a press release issued by Haobijam Ibobi, Secretary, Manipur Loumi Lup (AIKS-CPI) district level sit in protests were held at Kakching, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Jiribam districts of Manipur. The meetings were attended by the peasants, youth and students, trade union and women activists of the left parties.
The state level protest meeting at Imphal was addressed by the leaders of the left parties viz. CPI (M), CPI, AIFB and RSP and leaders of the peasant fronts of the parties. The meeting was conducted under a presidium consisting of Yumlembam Jogendro ( President, Manipur Loumi Marup- CPM), N. Singhajit ( President, Manipur Loumi Lup- CPI), Khomdram Gyaneshor (Agragami Kisan Sabha), Radha Devi (Vice President BKMU) and Haobijam Ibobi (Secretary, Manipur Loumi Lup- CPI)
Kshetrimayum Santa, Secretary of the state unit of CPI(M), Manipur, said that the two farm bills which were passed recently by the parliament will have serious negative impact on the people particularly to the farmers and peasants of the country and give more opportunities to the corporate sectors to exploit the working class. He further expressed that the BJP led NDA government at the centre is now working for the multi-national companies and corporates.
Laishram Sotinkumar, Secretary of CPI Manipur, delivering the meeting mentioned the undemocratic and unparliamentary attitude of the ruling BJP while passing the two bills in parliament. He said that the left parties and mass fronts in Manipur should be ready to fight any eventualities in the interest of the people.
Khomdram Gyaneshor , Secretary of AIFB Manipur, lambasted the anti-farmer and anti-people measures of the Central Government and appeals to the rank and file members of the left parties and mass organisations to be vigilant against the right wing Modi led NDA government for a New Order.
N Singhajit, in his speech, boldly expressed that the peasants will not succumbed to the pressure and threats of the fascistic ruling coalition. He demanded that the anti – farmers bills should be withdrawn.
A rally with red flags was organised in Bir Tikendrajit Road, Imphal after the protest meeting and concluded with slogans against the Modi government.
