Imphal: On the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakkouba, the Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) has heartily greeted all people of the State particularly married women in the State and other parts of the globe as well.
Ningol Chakkouba, one of the biggest festivals of Manipur, will be celebrated on October 27.
A press release issued by MSF Publicity Secretary Abhijeet Kabrabam said that the Ningol Ckakkouba is a festival celebrated once in a year, adding that on this special day, the married sisters are invited for a feast by their brothers at home and presented some gifts as a sign of love and bond.
Recalling Ningol Chakkouba in the history of Manipur, it said the tradition has been in existence for many, many years; however the tradition was later changed from the time of Maharaja Chandrakirti (1850-1886). MSF appealed to the people of the State to make the special day in its original form.
It further appealed to all businessmen of the State not to hike prices of goods while urging the concerned authorities to ensure that illegal price hike is checked. It wished that may the festival bring prosperity and peaceful co-existence among the people of the State.
