Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has announced that the grand old party will launch a series of agitations against the ‘anti-people policies’ of the BJP-led government at the Centre and in the State.
Addressing reporters at Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday, MPCC Senior Spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei said that the party strongly condemns the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for continuous summoning and harassment of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi without any registration of FIR against them. He said that such dictatorial action of PM Narendra Modi that smacks of a political vendetta has never happened in the country.
Claiming that the Agnipath scheme poses a threat to national security and future of youth of the country, he demanded the BJP to roll back the scheme immediately.
Bupenda also demanded the government to take action against Delhi Police, Manipur Police & security forces for violent acts against Congress leaders, workers and sympathisers who staged democratic protests in Delhi and Manipur.
Dubbing the BJP government as bulldozer government, he said the government has evicted many families possessing patta and demolished their houses and properties inhumanely.
People of the State were reeling under the intense hardship of Covid-19 for two years. The pandemic utterly affected the source of income of the people. Many women are maintaining their poor families by selling vegetables, tea and edibles in the makeshift vending plots constructed on the roadside. However, the government has evicted them, thus cutting off their source of livelihood, he said, demanding immediate allotment of land with compensation to the evicted victims.
The MPCC Spokesman also rejected the government’s unscientific and wrong policy of widening 79 roads in Greater Imphal Area and all District Head Quarters in the State, terming it an anti-people policy.
Asking the BJP government to construct flyover bridges if it has guts, he contended that the BJP has no any intention to construct such bridge and what the saffron party thinks is to evict and victimize the poor people, he
He further demanded immediate stoppage of international boundary fencing (Manipur sector) along the Indo-Myanmar border until a final settlement is reached.
The Congress leader questioned as to why the BJP government is maintaining silence on the border issue despite the fact that Union Minister of State for External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan is from Manipur and the saffron party is ruling both at the Centre and in the State.
Loss of Manipur’s land is the loss of India. During the Congress regime, border fencing was prevented. On the contrary, the BJP government even could not stop construction of border fencing at the disputed site, he said.
Further asking why the government should allow Myanmar to encroach State’s land, he demanded proper demarcation and marking of all Reserved Forest Areas, boundaries of all districts and sub-divisions in the State in a time bound manner.
