IMPHAL: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Moirangthem Okendro has strongly decried the allegations leveled against CLP leader Okram Ibobi by two hostile Congress MLAs RK. Imo and Okram Henary terming their allegations as uncouth.
Addressing reporters at Congress Bhavan, MPCC president Moirangthem Okendro said that the party served show cause notices to MLA RK Imo and MLA Okram Henary on July 24 in connection with their cross over voting during the Rajya Sabha poll and subsequent anti-party activities after the poll. They have submitted their replies to the show cause notices served by the party.
In their replies, the two MLAs made irrelevant statements whereby the party has been put in the wrong light. Such statements from the legislators labeling the oldest political party as unprincipled have hurt the sentiment of the party, he added.
The MPCC president announced that the party has accepted the explanations of the MLAs. Although everyone has the right to express their views, the party’s disciplinary action committee will take action if anybody is found indulged in anti-party activities. The committee will investigate into the explanations of the two MLAs and decide its future course of action, he announced.
Reacting to the serious charges leveled against Congress Legislator Party leader Okram Ibobi, the MPCC chief said that CLP leader is normally elected by majority of Congress MLAs. Majority of MLAs are supporting CLP leader Okram Ibobi and the charges leveled against him even though he still retains the majority support is unfortunate and uncultured, Oken said.
The two MLAs in their replies to the show cause notices served to them had stated that they are still members of Congress party. If they are Congress members, they are supposed to abide by the party principle and Constitution. There is no misunderstanding, conflict within the party till date.
