IMPHAL: Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba has inaugurated a new Dialysis Treatment Center at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday.

During the inauguration, the MP gave his assurance on raising the matter on service regularisation of contract employees of RIMS Hospital to the Central government.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Medical Superintendent of RIMS Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh, Head of Nephrology Department K. Doungel, Deputy Director (Admin) Dr. T Brojen Singh, Heads of Departments, faculty from medical, dental and nursing colleges of the institute, Nursing Superintendent and various other officials.

Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba expressed confidence that the newly constructed 10 bedded Dialysis Treatment Center will provide many beneficial services to the public, noting that 10 Dialysis machines were newly installed at the center.

He told that hundreds of people who suffer from chronic kidney diseases, particularly those who are economically poor, can benefit from these separate dialysis machines at General ICU and Trauma ICU that have the capacity for providing dialysis to at least 50 patients per day.

RIMS Director Prof. A Santa Singh asserted that it is their dream to give the best health care facilities to the people of Manipur and Northeastern states. Now, RIMS hospital can be able to operate 24×7 treatment for dialysis patients that includes ICU units, which will be a turning point for RIMS after installing 10 new machines with 3 RO at the department of Nephrology. The news is fabulous specially for the middle class families with members with kidney diseases as the upgradation in technology at the nephrology department meant that it will enhance the availability of dialysis service while at the same time bringing down the cost, apart from negating the need to travel to outside states for treatment where the charges and overall expenditures are high, he added.

He further stated that the Nephrology Department can produce two DM Doctors per year which will increase the numbers of specialized doctors in the field and ultimately make a major contribution in the health sector of India. The institution is planning to start kidney transplantation in the near future through collaboration with AIIMS, Delhi or Gujarat government, he asserted.

Later on, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba interacted with Director and officials at the Jubilee Hall of RIMS. There, Director Prof. A Santa briefed Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba on the various steps being taken up to develop the institute as one of the best medical institutes in India.

MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba assured that he will do his level best to elevate RIMS to the status of AIIMS.
