IMPHAL: Titular king and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba who had attended oath taking as a new parliamentarian in New Delhi has returned to Imphal on Saturday.
The RS MP arrived at BT International Airport Imphal at around 11.15 AM by an Air Asia flight, sources said.
Upon arrival in Imphal, a team of medical staff screened the health of the MP and his aides and collected their samples for rapid antigen testing for Covid-19. The samples were all detected negative for the virus.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba had left Imphal for the national capital on July 21 to take oath as Rajya Sabha MP. Dressed in traditional royal attire with a white scarf, the titular king took oath as Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) on July 22. After the ceremony, he has been staying there to meet central party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sanajaoba won the lone Rajya Sabha seat of Manipur as a BJP candidate by securing 28 of the 52 votes casted on June 19, 2020. His rival Congress candidate T Mangibabu lost the election with 24 votes.
Amid criticisms from various civil society organisations, Sanajaoba had contested the election.
