IMPHAL: Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda has urged the centre to resolve the protracted peace dialogue between NSCN-IM and GOI without affecting the interest of the neighboring states in the NE region.

Taking part in the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, the MP highlighted the various changes brought about in the North East by the Modi Government during its tenure.  How far Modi Government has brought about changes in the Country can be seen from the North east, he said.

The MP from the state delivered his speech in the Lok Sabha in Manipuri language.

The MP hailed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for enacting Inner Line Permit System in the state of Manipur to protect the indigenous people.

He said that people in the mainland generally consider the North east as insurgency and law and order ridden region.  However, the NE region has seen significant changes in terms of development and infrastructural development, connectivity during the present NDA regime.

“India cannot develop until NE is developed” Bhabananda said quoting Prime Minister Modi.

Modi Government has brought emotional connectivity with the North east. Union ministers are sent to the NE states every month to take stock of the situation there. Even the prime minister himself has visited the NE 20 times. He is coming to Assam tomorrow, he said.

Stating that the North east states including Manipur have seen significant changes in terms of infrastructural development, connectivity under the Act east policy renamed after Look East Policy of the then Congress regime, the MP exuded confidence that all the capital cities in the NE state would be connected by railroad by 2022. He also claimed that many institutions like NSU in Manipur, AIMS in Guwahati have been set up by the present government.

Stating that people of the NE remain aloof from the mainland India due to the step motherly treatment of the previous governments, he said that the present NDA regime has brought an emotional connectivity with the NE people and the region can now go ahead at par with other states in terms of development. Besides, several issues of NE states which remained unresolved during Congress government have been solved  by the Modi government. Recently historic Bru Reang agreement was  signed and issue of 34000 Bru refugees have been solved.  The five decade long Bodo insurgency will be resolved after signing an agreement this month. 1615 Bodo insurgents have laid down arms.

To protect indigenous people in Manipur, people have been demanding to enact ILP in the state. Even the state Assembly passed bills and sent to the central for presidential assent. But the bills failed tp get assent from the president. But miraculously, the Union Home minister recently fulfilled the long cherished dream of the Manipur people by enacting ILP in the state, for which the MP lauded the Home minister and Prime Minister.
