U-19 selected Cricketers for Vinoo Mankad announced
Imphal: Manipur Cricket Association (MNCA) celebrated its 46th Foundation Day at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium Meeting Hall, Luwangshangbam on Thursday.
At the occasion, MNCA secretary Ksh. Peter recalled that the lone Cricket stadium of the state at Luwangshangbam ground was constructed in 1975. It is like a boon to the budding cricket players and lovers. The Cricket Association is planning to develop another Cricket stadium at Ngairangbam. He said that many more playgrounds which are suitable for playing crickets will be developed and cited playgrounds at Oriental College, Langthabal, Moijing etc. as examples.
He continued that Manipur Cricket Association is also planning to develop low cost indoor stadiums for practicing cricket throughout a year. Development of the stadium will help in saving huge amount of money by training players in the state instead of sending them outside the state for participation in coaching camps. He also added that other developmental programs are in the pipe line.
Standing Committee chairman Th. Joykumar stated that Manipur Cricket Association is dreaming to prepare a cricket team which will represent the state in the BCCI’s tournament. At present, our cricket players are participating in the national events like Ranji Trophy, Vinoo Mankad, Vijay Hajare trophy and others.
Expressing that participation of Cricket players from the state in the international level is the dream of the association and this platform will give our players a chance to expose their skills and talents in Cricket, the chairman said that at present there are six A-level Cricket coaches in the state who have been approved by BCCI.
He also stated that video analysis to study the players’ weakness and strongest point as well as need of experienced umpires approved by BCCI to solve any critical problem during the play are essential in order to mould best Cricketers in the state. Adding that good playgrounds are also necessary, he appealed to all the clubs to produce more cricketers from the age groups of U-14, U-16, U-19 players which will help in bringing changes in terms of development of Cricket in the state.
Men’s Cricket Committee chairman Bhaktaraj encouraged all the cricket clubs of the state to take initiative in organising more coaching camps for cricketers with an aim to improve their skills, technique and physical fitness. He said that cricket is a professional game and the players have to maintain fitness both physically and mentally. As such, coaching has become mandatory for the players without which the Manipur Cricket Association could never produce talented players who will represent the state in the national and international levels.
As a part of the celebration, a floral tribute was paid in honour of the departed souls of founders and members of the Cricket association.
MNCA vice-president L. Binoy and treasurer L. Ronel were also present in the foundation day celebration.
On the other hand, the association announced the selected list of players for participation in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad One Day Tournament, 2021-22 to be held at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
The selected Cricketers are Dominic Singh Moirangthem, Rajkumar Herachandra Singh, Heisnam Samsung Meitei, Sanjenbam Somokanta Khuman, Kadamjit Moirangthem, Sanjenbam Suresh Singh (Vice-Captain),
Ulenyai Khwairakpam, Kongbrailatpam Kalyan Sharma, Laishram Vivekananda Singh, Laishram Chingkheihunba Meitei, Ningthoujam Rohit Singh, Roger Elangbam, Ningthoujam Sanjit Singh, Seram Robinson, Paonam Champion Singh and Pheiroijam Jotin Singh (Captain).
The coaches who were selected for the said tournament are Takhelmayum Vikash, Samurailatpam Ranjit Sharma and Syed Mujibur Rahaman while R.K. Pratap Singh (Physio), trainers Jenson Rajkumar and Wahengbam Kunjabihari Singh will aid the team manager Potsangbam Krishnan Singh.
