IMPHAL: Thanga AC and lone AITC MLA Tongbram Robindro on Thursday renewed his support to the BJP led coalition Government.
Addressing reporters at his Khagempalli residence, Robindro said that all the issues and the misunderstandings within the government have been amicably resolved and subsequently he will continue to extend full support to the present Government.
I will continue to support the BJP led coalition as all misunderstandings having been amicably resolved, he said.
Notably, MLA Robindro was disqualified by the Speakers’ Tribunal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly a day ahead of the Rajya Sabha election that was conducted on June 18 after he withdrew support to the BJP led coalition and joined hands with the opposition Congress in a bid to form a new Government.
On July 10, the High Court of Manipur in an interim order suspended the disqualification order passed by the Speaker’s Tribunal.
The interim order was passed by a division bench of Manipur High Court comprising of Justice Lanusungkum Jamir and Justice Ahanthem Bimol in response to the writ petition (C) no 317 of 2020 filed by disqualified MLA Tongbram Robindro challenging the verdict of the Assembly Speaker. The court fixed July 20 for the next hearing.
MLA Robindro who got elected from Thanga AC on an AITC ticket in 2017 state Assembly election supported the BJP led coalition Government. On June 17, he withdrew support from the BJP led Government along with 4 NPP MLAs, one Independent MLA and forged an alliance with the Opposition Congress.
A day after his withdrawal of support, Speaker’s tribunal disqualified him on June 18 under 10th schedule of the constitution based on a petition filed by MLA Th Satyabrata who in his petition claimed that Robindro had merged with the BJP after dissolving Trinamool Congress party which attracts disqualification under 10th Schedule.
