Imphal: MLA Khangabok Assembly Constituency Okram Surjakumar on Sunday has urged the state government to provide an appropriate pension scheme for the welfare of artistes.
MLA Okram was addressing the 2nd death anniversary of the former president of The Academy for Cultural Resource (TACR) Sagolsem Kameshon Singh and Workshop cum Production of Rajmel Taranithoi, 2020, held at Nepra Company Makha Leikai Community Hall.
Okram drew the attention of the state government and said for the implementation of cultural policy instead of enclosure only in the form of paper. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for recognizing the value of Manipur Sankirtana (the ritual singing, drumming and dancing of Manipur) by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.
On the day, Ward Member Charangpat GP Maibam (O) Ibemhal Devi, General Council Member Sangeet Natak Academi Samurailatpam Nabachandra, Cultural Activist and Assistant Professor of Manipur University of Culture Makhonmani Mongsaba, Assistant Professors of MUC Dr. Pukhrambam James and Thokchom Ritankumar Singh attended on the day.
The workshop programme will be carried out in various parts of the Thoubal district starting from November 29 till December 4, 2020. The programme was organized by the TACR under the Sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, Government of India, funded by the Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme.
