MKPF objects to sale of women vendor seat permits before election

TMB Report

Bishnupur: The Moirang Kendra Progressive Front (MKPF) has strongly objected and condemned the intention of Moirang Municipal Council to sell 114 women vendor seat permits prior to the upcoming election of 24 Municipal Council and 2 Nagar Panchayat of Manipur which will be held at January 2021.

Terming it unreasonable and unacceptable, M. Utamkumar, General Secretary of MKPF, while addressing media at its office in Moirang Philem Leikai, said that the market price of the 114 Women Vendor seats is valued at over Rs. 4 crore and questioned on which development work will the sale money be used or will it be used or if it will be distributed among the Councilors.

If the women vendor seats are sold without clear reason, it will be one of the biggest scandals to occur under Moirang Municipal Council, Utamkumar said.

If the sales money is to be distributed between the Councilors, help of law will surely be sought under personal liability act to collect the debts, he added.

Stating that women organizations have even spread awareness regarding the intention to sell the vendor seats, Utamkumar has called on the Councilors to clarify within 7 days.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that one of the former councilors has been selling permits for E-Rickshaw 5/5 and is preparing to sell another 5/5 permit. As the 3 wheeler Rickshaw pullers are also to be given permit, giving permits without any thoughts will only create road congestion. This also should be considered thoroughly, MKPF appealed.
