Imphal: Rebutting the allegation leveled by four Jiribam based women organisations, Works Minister Thongam Bishwajit clarified that he had never interrupted the construction work of the Western Gate of Jiribam.
According to a release signed by S Johnson, PA to the Minister, the allegation by the women groups is very unfortunate. The Minister never interrupted in any development works being taken up in the state. Instead, he attempted to get the development works completed at the earliest by resolving any dispute.
The Minister termed the allegation of the Jiribam based Woman Meira Paibi Organisations that the construction of Jiribam Western Gate had paused due to disruption by the works minister as very unfortunate and baseless. People are well aware of the various development activities taken up by the government during this short period of three years. Taking into account the urgency to construct the Western Gate, it was enlisted in the work programme of the department in consultation with the Chief Minister. The work is under tender process, the statement informed.
He further stated that a minister cannot work at his free will while taking up a work as procedures are being followed at the start of the work some time is being taken. The Covid-19 pandemic has also delayed the work progress. Government will construct the western gate and the works department has already given technical sanction, the statement said.
The Minister questioned who had started the work without official knowledge.
From the department’s side, nobody was authorized to start the work. Some vested individuals might have started the work without proper approval from the concerned department, the statement added.
Expressing suspicion that the Meira Paibis must have been misled by some individuals, the minister appealed to the concerned not to repeat such acts. As Jiribam is now a full-fledged district, Government has various plans to develop infrastructures apart from the western gate. Department is making all possible efforts to take up the work to public satisfaction, the minister stated and appealed to the people to contact him through his mobile no 9436892786 to clear any doubt.
