Midnight Fire Turns School Into Ashes, Properties Worth Over Rs. 80 Lakh Destroyed

Thoubal: In a devastating midnight fire, one private school cum coaching centre and house of the school founder were turned into ashes and properties that might run about to more than Rs. 80 lakhs were destroyed.

The timely combating by Thoubal fire service and local people prevented the fire from further spreading.

The unfortunate incident took place at Heirok Part – III near Champra Thong in Thoubal District.

According to the report received from the incident area, the fire broke out at around 12.30 am of the intervening night of February 11 and 12. The name of the ill fated school was “TN Memorial Academy”, a private school having about 400 students from Nursery to Class VIII.

The school was founded by Tourangbam Janeshwor (44 years), a resident of the same locality, in memory of his father late Nabachandra at the compound of his house. One coaching cum boarding centre was also attached at the wooden school building.

Altogether 25 students who are going to appear in the ensuing HSLC examination 2020 had also boarded there. Fortunately, none of them got injured. It is said that the fire had started due to electric short circuit from a chicken shed that lies just adjacent to the school.

As soon the fire broke out, people of the locality rushed out to put out the fire, three fire tender vehicles from Thoubal Fire service also reached the spot on time and joint in fighting the fire, the eyewitnesses said.

While talking to reporters, the founder of the school T. Janeshwor informed that they came to know the fire at around 12.30 am. The loss of property might run to around Rs. 80 lakhs.

Among the properties that were gutted down in the fire includes 17 class rooms, HSLC examination admit cards of the boarded students, he addd.

Moreover, 2 computer sets, 10 CCTv cameras, 3 iron closets, 1 dressing table, 5 almirahs, 1 flat TV, 1 washing machine, 2 double beds, 15 single beds, 70 desk and benches, 2 sofa sets, 5 show boxes, 25 chairs, 12 tools, Rs. 40 thousand  in cash and some other household materials were lost, Janeshwor claimed.
