Imphal: The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has on Tuesday taken up a Suo-motu case regarding the collapsing of Irang bridge on National Highway-37 (NH-37) along Imphal-Jiribam.
The proceeding of the commission said that almost all the local daily newspaper have published and carried the news item that due to break down/collapsed of Irang bridge along NH-37 Imphal-Jiribam there have occurred the loss of the driver of a tuck and the rescue of the handyman and suspension of the life-line of Manipur viz Imphal-Jiribam NH.
Upon the aforesaid news item the commission took up up a Suo-motu case as the suspension of the said life-line has seriously violated the rights to life/livelihood of the people of Manipur in particular guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution of the India and the rights to life of the said driver/handyman guaranteed by Article 21 of this Constitution.
The commission asked respondents to make immediate inquiry into the aforesaid accident (s) and submit their respective report to this commission on or before November 13, 2020. The MHRC sent the proceeding copies to respondents for their necessary action.
