IMPHAL: The traditional event of “Mera Houchongba” was observed in the state in the presence of Leishemba Sanajaoba, Maharaja of Manipur at Sana Konung Uttra Shanglen on Saturday.
MP Sanajaoba joined the event of ‘Mera Houchongba’ with rituals candle lightning ceremony and awarded the caretakers and organisers of ‘Pacha Loishang’ presenting traditional woven cloths and distribution of certificates. The event included exchange of gifts between Ramji Village Head G. Ganguilung and Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba as a mark of strengthening the brotherhood relationship among hills and valley people.
MP Sanajaoba briefed the press media explaining that the ‘Mera Houchongba’ event was observed to showcase and remind the bonding love and sense of brotherhood between hills and valley people.
Since early period, the function of the particular day is observed after 15 days of rituals and customary ceremonies were held by erecting poles (Mera Wayungba) at every courtyard of houses residing in the valley areas, he enlightened.
MP Sanajaoba further acknowledged that the event will again unite and tighten the relationship between the people of hills and valley and serve the platforms of showcase and fostering the traditional attires and productions of state.
He said, “it is unfortunate that hill village leaders were unable to participate at this event for this year due to Covid-19 pandemic.
He appealed to the people in prevailing peace and harmony in the state, and thus brought together and united the bonding and relationship between the hills and valley people.
