IMPHAL: The Moirang Kendra Progressive Front held a meeting against the delimitation process of the central government in Manipur which is based on the 2011 census. The meeting was conducted on Tuesday at Moirang Philem with strict adherence to social distancing norms.
As per the report, Moirang Kendra social activist Th. Shanti stated in the meeting that it was extremely unfortunate and also not reasonable for the people of the state that the delimitation process is being taken up under the current circumstances. According to Shanti the move was specifically aimed at targeting some of the north east states and Kashmir, Manipur in particular, in the midst of the critical situation of Covid-19 pandemic being faced in the entire world.
However, people of the state will never accept the delimitation programme of the Central government which will reduce the Assembly constituencies in the valley for invalid reasons and benefit some areas in the hills, Shanti said. He urged the central government to make its decisions on the matter keeping in mind the interest of the whole state where different communities have been existing together from the ancient times.
The meeting was attended by MKPF chief advisor Dr Y. Modhu, president L.Gopal and Secretary M. Uttam Kumar as functional dignitaries.
