MDS Scam: Court permits retention of docs seized during raid for investigation

IMPHAL: The Special Court CBI, Imphal West on Monday allowed the application filed for retention of some documents/articles alleged seized during the raids for investigation in connection Rs. 186 crore MDS scam.

The application was filed by the CBI before the court with a prayer for giving permission for retention of some seized documents/articles during the raid last year in nine different locations including private residence and official quarter of former chief minister O Ibobi.

The court on perusal of the filed application allowed the prayer of CBI filed through their Special PP for retention of some seized documents/articles for investigation in interest of justice with the direction that the seized documents are to be produced before the court as and when required to do so or directed to do so.

Mention may be made that team of CBI on November 23, 2019 conducted raid at nine locations including former Chief Minister also the CLP leader Okram Ibobi Thoubal residence and his official quarter located at Babupara, former Chief Secretary O. Nabakishore quarter and his Ningthoukhong residence, former Project Director MDS Yambem Ningthem Mantripukri residence and Administrative Officer MDS S Ranjit residence

The raid was also conducted simultaneously at the residence of former Chief Secretary PC Luwmkunga at Aizawl and that of former Chief Secretary DS Poonia Gurgaon in connection with Manipur Development Society (MDS) fund misappropriation case.

The raid was carried out after the CBI took over the MDS case on October last and after taking permission from Government to investigate the case.
