IMPHAL: A host of Manipuri civil society organisations in Assam rolled out the red carpet for Manipur’s Lok Sabha MP Dr Rk Ranjan who arrived at Barak valley on a two day visit.
Upon arrival at Silchar Airport this afternoon, leaders of different Manipuri CSOs warmly received the MP.
MP Ranjan paid tribute to the statue of Khongjom war hero Paona Brajabashi at Pangram, Udharbon. The MP interacted with the Meira Paibi and CSOs there.
Manipuri Youth Front Assam and Assam Manipuri Muslim Youth Front led by president Seram Herajit and Chief Advisor Ahamed Choudhury warmly received him at Silchar Circuit House.
Leaders of MYFA and AMMYF lauded MP Ranjan for supporting the mass movement to enlist Manipuri language in the list of associate official languages of Assam and highlighting the issue in the Parliament.
They also sought further support from the MP for the cause.
During his visit, MP Ranjan will inspect various historical sites related to Manipuris in Cachar. He will inspect Langondabi lake and other historical sites in Jiribon.
The MP is expected to take part in a discussion programme on ‘various issues of Manipuris living in Assam’ to be held at Gandhi Bhavan, Silchar organised by All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union.
