IMPHAL: Based on a complaint filed by Nongmaithem Indradumon Singh, the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has asked the Director General of Police (DGP) Manipur to instruct the Superintendent of Police (SP), Bishnupur district to release the wife of the complainant who is in police custody if the information provided in the letter is correct.
In connection with the arrest of Nongmaithem (ongbi) Flora Devi, the wife of Nongmaithem Indradumon Singh from Nachou Kha Leikai Ward no.5, Bishnupur district, the commission took up a complaint case no. 78 of 2020 with the complainant petition dated 16.06.2020 which claimed that the woman was arrest without any valid reasons and she continues to be in detention with Bishnupur police. No arrest memo was issued at the time of arrest.
The commission in its proceeding statement said that according to the complainant Flora Devi is six months pregnant who is under medication for her pregnancy.
According to the complainant, N. Mani is his cousin and they are also neighbours. The complainant further stated that when he inquired about the reason for her arrest, Bishnupur police informed that Flora Devi will not be released if he fails to produce N. Mani. It is said that DGP, Manipur is required to submit a detailed report in respect of the case on or before July 7, 2020, the same day which the commission fixed for further proceedings.
The commission has sent a copy of this proceeding along with a copy of the complainant’s petition to DGP for information and necessary action. The same copy of proceeding has been also furnished to the SP of Bishnupur district, for her information.
