Like many states in the country and in North East, the government has finally decided to impose lockdown in the state with immediate effect, as a preventive measure to help control the spread of Coronavirus in the state, if any. The government has however granted exceptions for emergency / essential services, grocery and vegetable sellers, etc. and called them to be open for the public. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held at CM’s Secretariat to review various precautionary and preparatory measures that have been taken up in the State against the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, in a time and space when state governments across the state including the North East are imposing lockdown, it is indeed right that the Biren-led BJP government in the state has also taken the right decision. Moreover, the government has ordered directing all persons who were abroad during January or February, 2020 and had returned to Manipur after 1st March, 2020 to furnish their particulars and travel history to the notified agencies (shomemanipur@ gmail.com) on or before March 24. The State Health department also said that all travelers (foreign or domestic) entering into Manipur by air or land route will be put under Home quarantine for a period of 14 days from the date of entry into Manipur with immediate effect.
Indeed, these steps taken by the government are vital for preventing the spread of COVID-19 if there be any in the state. It is a measure that is seen as vital and appreciated by the general public. And what is important here is for the general public to follow the rules and guidelines set by the government in the fight against the virus. And considering that the government has identified quarantined and isolation wards, there need is a need for the public to respect the decision of the government. Hence, it is advisable for the general public to respect the lockdown, stay indoors, keep the required safe social distancing, wash their hands and follow the guidelines laid down by the government.
The fight against COVID-19 is not a fight of the government alone or the medical experts. Without the support of the general public, it is a virus that will never die. Hence, for plans and actions of the government to work, for the fight of the medical experts to be a success, the general public will have to respect each other and those fighting against the virus to make it a success. After all, the government has taken the right decisions so far and it for the public to follow them and make it a success.
