IMPHAL: IPR Minister Th Bishwajit has donated ‘Made in Manipur” hand sanitizers to news paper distributors of Manipur through the Editors Guild Manipur and the All Manipur Working Journalists Union. The hand sanitizers were handed over to the President and Secretary of All Manipur Hawkers Association at the conference hall of The Sangai Express by President of EGM Khogendra Khomdram and Secretary of AMWJU Kh Naoba.
The IPR Minister donated the hand sanitizers to the newspaper distributors so that they can be protected from the coronavirus when they go about distributing the newspapers. EGM President Kh Khogen while speaking to the hawkers said that I&B Ministry of Govt. of India has asked both the print and electronic media of the country to continue operation in the wake of coronavirus pandemic as people also need to be protected from ”fake news.‘ With the boom in social media, there are many fake news in connection with coronavirus which are misleading and likely to create panic. At such time, it is the trusted mainstream media that will give the people the true picture. Khogen further said that there is a misinformation that the virus can be spread from handling newspaper. This, he said, is not true. So far there is no evidence that coronavirus is infected from touching the newspapers,‘ he said. Many major national newspapers have carried clarification that newspapers do not help in spread of the virus.
He also appealed to the hawkers to continue their work as it has been considered at par with water and other essential items. He also appealed to the newspaper subscribers to support both the journalists fraternity and newspapers distributors who are working day and night to bring them news.
He also thanked the IPR minister for supporting the newspaper distributors and journalists at such crucial times and expressed hope that he will continue to do so in future.
Meanwhile, two private entrepreneurs -JS Venture pvt Ltd & Thokchom lboyaima and Sons today launched ”Made in Manipur” hand sanitizers made under the initiative of Government of Manipur to help fight the coronavirus which has already reached the state. As part of corporate social responsibility, the two companies also donated some hand sanitizers for journalists of Manipur through the Editors Guild Manipur and All Manipur Working Journalists Union. President of the EGM Khogendra Khomdram and Secretary ofAMWJU Kh Naoba received the items on behalf of the journalists. Speaking at the handing over function, Jotin Thokchom, representing of JS Ventures and Thokchom lboyaima & Sons said the main raw material alcohol was sourced from Assam with the intervention of the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren and the hand sanitizer were made in Manipur as per the WHO recommendation. The joint venture of the two companies was done not for profit but as part of fight against coronavirus and save the future generation, Jotin added. He said the, the hand sanitizer is being made available in the local market at just Rs.100/per 200 ml bottle.
