IMPHAL: The Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee, Manipur (LINTOC) has observed the 124th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot under the aegis of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) at the conference hall of AMSU head office in DM College by adhering to social distancing norms and following the guidelines of SOP.
LINTOC, in a press release signed by its convener S. Ratankumar, said that many participants from across the state paid floral tribute to the statue of Lamyanba and also shared their views on the important progressive works initiated by the Lamyanba for the society during his time.
It added that the observation will remain a meaningless and worthless exercise, if the real essence of remembering him, which is the driving point behind the observation, is not understood, even if his birth anniversary programme is continued to be observed every year on September 30 like it has been done in the past years.
He also mentioned that the Lamyanba Irabot fought to regain the birthrights of the common people and their rights to freedom of speech which was kept in suppression and ignored under the colonial rule of the British government. For achievement of his social goals, Irabot launched a series of agitations and movements challenging the Thoudou-thouong in order to bring changes in the society. Lamyanba Irabot was one of the leaders who successfully motivated the people to stand with oneness to fight against the British colonial rule with fervor to regain their birthright, he added.
It continued to mention that bringing economic changes in the society in order to enable the people to live independently through self-sufficiency in production was another ideology of Lamyanba Irabot. His plan was for the people to live as owners using their own goods and products and without having to further depend on products supplied from outside. With paramount success, he began to demonstrate after forging an understanding among the farmers of the state, which succeeded his identification of the farmers as one of the main components for fruitful organization of social agitations and bringing changes in the society, the note added.
The note made an observation that our people are unwilling to take adequate responsibilities as well as perform their duties assigned by society to them which is bringing harmful consequences like a virus. People’s minds are diverted and they are more than happy to find criticism of others but are reluctant to indulge in self-criticism which is why the society has remained stagnant, the note added.
Further, it added that the birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot has been observed every year with the hope to bring changes and to move forward towards positive development by getting inspiration from the examples set by Lamyanba Irabots’ good leadership.
The programme was attended by PPCM convener Jitendra Ningombam, LINTOC convener S. Ratankumar, and the Finance Sub-Committee convener Kh. Gope Luwang as a presidium member of the anniversary function.
