Imphal: The allegation of the misuse of huge amounts of college fund against the outgoing principal of Lilong Haoreibi College (LHC) Dr. A. Surendrajit by the Lilong Haoreibi Students’ Union (LHSU) was dismissed as purely baseless by the former principal himself.
The statement of clarification was made by Dr A. Surendrajit during a press meet held at Biramangol College on Wednesday.
Addressing media persons, he stated that when he took charge as a principal of Lilong Haoreibi College in the year 2018, the condition there was very bad and there were not even proper seating arrangements for the teachers.
Right after he joined the college as principal he started renovation works and construction at the underdeveloped college and during his short tenure brought it upto the level of other colleges of Manipur. But even in such deprived conditions, the students’ union started demanding unprecedented high amounts of funds from the college for its utilisation. He made enquiries with the union leaders as to where they are going to use the augmented amounts, he added.
He claimed that some secretaries of the union pressurized him by writing recommendation letters using their union letterhead and requesting the recruitment of their family members as employees at the college. So, for solicitation of such acts three secretaries of the union were removed from their posts at the union, Dr Surendrajit asserted. As a principal of the college, he was trying to correct the mistakes that were infesting the college but instead of appreciating the union charged him with wrongdoings after coming together with some teachers and some individuals from outside of the college, he stated.
He also further informed that even a departmental inquiry was conducted to probe the charges against him and the department knew that there was no offense committed on his part. He also clarified that it was wrong information that the fund of the college at the time he left was a meager Rs. 30,000.
Dr A. Surendrajit said that after he was transferred to Biramangol College, the college fund he handed over to the new principal of LHC was Rs. 2.5 lakh. So, the state government needs to take action against the union whose leaders have been trying to mislead the people about the character of the principal who had worked for the good of the students.
