The lady police officer who was allegedly physically assaulted, harassed and molested by the AR Jawan is identified as one Ms. Anupam, (IPS officer of 2016 batch) presently posted as SDPO at Yairipok Police Station.

The lady officer, in her complaint, stated she along with her uniformed escort party left her office on Sunday morning at about 8:00 for Moreh on an official duty in her official vehicle bearing registration number MN01G -6243 of Thoubal district police. While heading to Moreh, her vehicle was checked and entry was registered at three different places along the Imphal –Moreh route along with her name and other escort party accompanying her on the visit.

Upon completion of her official duty, she along with the same escort party were returning from Moreh but the team was stopped at Khudengthabi Check post by D-Company, 12 Assam Rifles. One escort personal of the lady IPS officer identified as M. Hemanta approached the frisking party of the AR and tried to inform them and register entry of the their vehicle. Identity cards of the police officer and her escort personnel were shown to the Assam rifles, informing that they were on an official duty.

However, one AR personal identified as PK Pandey of D-company 12th AR posted at Khudengthabi detained them there, apart from threatening to detain them till midnight.

He also threatened the IPS officer saying that he will not leave her and her team at all if the matter is reported to the Director General of Police or the Chief Minister of Manipur.

The AR personnel also even thrashed the police vehicle in which the IPS officer was sitting.

Despite identifying herself as a police officer by producing her service I-card, the AR personnel continued misbehaving, humiliating, harassing and assaulting her and her escort personnel namely M Hemanta, A Somananda, Md Abdul Sukur, Md Shahyar Khan and S Inaobi Singh.

The police team offered the AR personal to frisk them and their vehicle, but the latter was not interested in that and instead, he started physically assaulting and molesting the lady police officer. Even though her escort personnel managed to intervene, he started thrashing, beating and pushing them. When the team requested the AR man to bring his immediate senior officer on the spot, he denied and didn’t allow the team to move from there. He also attempted to slap the lady cop officer but got intervened by her escort personnel. He also allegedly threw sexually coloured remarks on the lady officer and kept on undermining her dignity by abusing in a foul language. In spite of it, the police team kept on requesting the AR man not to obstruct them on official duty but the latter denied.

The lady police officer also alleged the AR man of attempting to snatch her mobile phone when the former was trying to call her senior officers to inform about the matter.

She reported the matter to her senior officers as well as brigadier 26-AR while the accused AR man informed the Major of D-company 12-AR about the matter. The Major arrived at the spot and the matter was brought to his notice and thus the issue was brought under control, added the police officer in her complaint.
