Imphal: Lairenlakpam Ajitkumar Meitei (All India RIN-110017), State category-I referee has been awarded the best referees award of the All India Football Association (AIFF) 2020. He had won the best state referee Award of the CC Meet thrice in 2003, 2007 and 2011.
L. Ajitkumar Meitei started his refereeing career in 1995 as State Class-l Referee (Now called Category-V), State Class-II (cat-IV) in 1997, State class-I (Cat-III) in 1999 and got National Referee Badge (Cat-II) in 2001. Since then he started conducting match/tournaments at national level.
Important tournaments he conducted were the U-15/U-16/U-19/U-21 Boys National Football tournaments, U-17 Girls National Football Tournaments, Santosh Trophies, Division-II National Football League since 2009 and I-League since 2010 without any break (including important matches involving Mohun Bagan and East Bengal), Durand Cups, IFA Shield, Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup, Sikkim Chief Minister’s Gold Cup and Federation Cup etc.
He got foreign assignments in 2014 held in Maldives of League (All Division) competitions.
He conducted the final match of U-16 National Football Tournament at Mandia, Bengaluru, Karnataka in 2008, and conducted final match of All India Police Meet Football Competition, 2002 at Dergao, Assam.
Then, he conducted final match of Super Cup of the Indian Super League, 2019 played between Chennai City FC and Chennaiyin FC at Kolkata, West Bengal and final match of Durand Cup Football Tournament 2019 played between Mohun Bagan and Gokulam Kerala FC.
Above all, he got other Achievements as Professional Referee since 2013, and signed as Professional Referee in 2019 at a Salary of Rs. 30,000/- per month.
He is the only nn-FIFA referee of India to achieve these feats. Though he is to retire from refereeing at the national levels after 2020 on the completion of 45 years, the AIFF, considering his performance had extended his service up to December 2021.
Lairenlakpam Ajitkumar Meitei hails from Lilong Chajing Mamang Leikai and is the son of (L) L Aten Meitei and (L) L (O) Thoibi Leima.
