KANGPOKPI: The Kuki civil society organizations of Chassad area, Kamjong District conveyed its appreciation over the efforts of International Human Rights Association (IHRA) in highlighting the gross human rights violation perpetrated time and upon the Kuki people in Kamjong District.

The Kuki CSOs also recalled that the Kuki people of Chassad area in Kamjong District were regularly subjected to inhuman torture from the past which raise an alarm to the International Human Rights Association to fight for justice on humanitarian ground.

However, appreciating the efforts of IHRA, the Kuki CSOs also clarified that it is the 42 Assam Rifles not 31 Assam Rifles as stated by IHRA, which is currently posted at Chassad and as on date, the Commanding Officer has not been observed siding with any particular community against the other and dragging his name on the issue of the recent incident could be a breach of trust between the local populace and the Assam Rifles.

It further said that the Commandant of Chassad Battalion, 42 Assam Rifles had maintained a cordial relationship with the local people and the appeal of the IHRA to annul the Commanding Officer from his post being factually incorrect is without the knowledge and will of the local people.
