IMPHAL: The Kanglei Sheishaklon Shimdamshang (KSS) organized its two daylong state level festival of Khongjom Parva under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Ministry of Culture, New Delhi at the premises of Nongpok Ingkhol, Konung Mamang on Sunday.
The 2-daylong state level festival is organised to promote Khongjom Parva art of cultural song and dance which is declining in this modern society.
Addressing as the chief guest at the festival, Guest Faculty of Manipur University of Culture cum Manipur Sahitya Parishad-Sangeet Bushan Awardee, Leihaorungpam Bidur Singh said that Khongjom Parva have been existing since 1891 from during the time of Khongjom battle and said that the song and dance were related with the incidents of the battle.
He further stated that the Khongjom Parva were once very common and famous 50 years ago in the society of Manipur but slowly it had declined with the influence of modern culture which majority of youngster neglecting listening to traditional songs and dance music.
He also further mentioned that the Manipur is one of the richest state in the field of art and culture in the entire world and also that the artists in the state need to maintain good discipline besides focusing on vocals and beautiful physical appearance to impress the audiences and public during performances in the stage, he added.
The inauguration of the 2-day long festival was attended by Assistant Professional Manipur University of Culture, Dr. Manju Elangbam and president of KSS cum International, National and State Kala Academy Awardee, Khumanthem Sundari Devi as guest of honour and president respectively.
