Khangabok Hit and Run Case: 4 accused held with vehicle

THOUBAL: In what could be termed as swift action of the Thoubal District Police, all the accused persons who have been involved in the “hit and run” case near the gate of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok has been arrested along with the vehicle involved in the crime on Friday morning.

In the said incident which occurred on Wednesday, a woman named Moirangthem (Ongbi) Manjuri Devi (56), wife of (L) Moirangthem Ibopishak of Khangabok Awang Leikai Bangsibandon Part-1 died at the spot after she was hit by the vehicle.

Deceased Manjuri was serving as a cook at the KM Blooming Higher Secondary school.

According to police sources, the arrested persons have been identified as Waikhom Buten @ Ellubi (27), son of Kumar of Thoubal Bazaar Makha Pakhangkhong Leirak; Kshetrimayum Kanan @ Anand (27), son of Rajen of Thoubal Haokha Kiyam Siphai; Romen Thingujam (27), son of Munal Of Thoubal Haokha Kiyam Siphai and Waikhom Robinson @ Maru (27), son of Inao of Thoubal Bazaar Makha.

The car that hit Manjuri was driven by W. Buten, the source added.

The seized involved vehicle is a Maruti Alto, blue colour, having registration number MN06LA/5826.

It may be recalled that following the incident, a public meeting was convened on Thursday morning at BYC ground of Khangabok and a Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed.

The meeting resolved to demand the authority concerned, particularly the district administration and the Thoubal Police to nab the culprits within 11:00 AM of January 31.

The meeting also resolved that the body will not be accepted unless the culprits involved in the incident are nabbed.

The resolution of the public meeting also includes laying down of speed breakers near the zebra crossing areas, installation of CCTV cameras in front of Thoubal Police SP Office and Wangjing Police Outpost and installation of road median along the NH-102.
