KAVAC, RLPKA and ZSUKA threaten of total block from 2nd week of Nov

TMB Report

Imphal: The Khoupum Area Villages Authority Council (KAVAC), Rongmei Luh Phuam Khoupum Area (RLPKA) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union Khoupum Area (ZSUKA) have jointly expressed resentment and condemned the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government to its repeated appeal for kind consideration and necessary action in regard to the fate of TongjeiMaril (Old Cachar) road.

The construction of the road was done without maintaining any quality and the condition of it is deteriorating day after day, the organizations claimed.

In a press release jointly signed by the Chairman of KAVAC Athon Remei, Convenor of ZSUKA Jangthuilung Rongmei and secretary of KAVAC Kahimdai Kamei, it was stated that last month, the joint body has also raised a complaint against it in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, where a specific request was made to kindly check the quality of the road especially blacktopping of the road from Zoujangtek to Rengpang. The historical Tongjei Maril (Old Cachar) road which got facelift under North Eastern Council (NEC) funding has not seen positive development till date.

The release further said that the road stretches from zero point till Rengpang is getting so many potholes that produce mud because of its poor quality. The road section near Luwanglon Khunou village is also insecure and unsafe because new earth cutting work is underway. At any moment a landslide or boulder fall could happen. The traffic diversion towards Old Cachar Road after the collapse of Irang Bailey Bridge on November 1, 2020 at Taobam (Irang) added another snag to Tongjei Maril road as the traffic volume increases due to plying of heavy laden vehicles and other public carriers.

These uncertain bushy risk factors of roads which are so prone to accidents should not go unchecked. If any untoward accident happens, it must be the sole responsible of the present government and the Keystone Infra Pvt. Ltd. Company. Beside these, the Bailey bridge at Thongjaorok and Irang rivers at Ngariyan and Khoupum are unstable. When such heavy vehicles with huge traffic volumes continue to ply on this poor road, the bridge and the road will no longer be functional within a short frame of time, added the statement.

As informed earlier, the joint civil bodies of Khoupum Sub-Division will impose a total block of the road from second week of November, 2020 if the concerned authority fails to look into the plight of this road at the very earliest, it added.
