Kakching Police arrest drug smuggler

Imphal: A team of Kakching District Police Commando has arrested one drug smuggler with contraband drugs from near Napat Bridge, Sugnu on Sunday around 9:50 pm.

The arrested person has been identified as Jamkhomang Haokip (23 years), son of Ngamkholun Haokip of Monglenphai village in Churachandpur district.

According to police sources, acting on reliable information that one Anbo bike, black in colour, is passing through Sugnu from Hengkot village towards Churachandpur carrying suspected Opium (Kani), the Kakching District Police Commando under the command of Additional SP(Ops)/Kakching Ksh. Manihar Singh and under the overall supervision of SP/Kakching Victoria Yengkhom conducted frisking and checking at Sungnu Bazar on the very day at around 8:45 pm.

During the frisking and checking the team arrested the drug smuggler along with 6.772 Kgs of suspected opium (Kani) brought in 8 plastic packets contained in a carry bag at an Anbo bike.

The team seized the suspected opium (Kani) and the Anbo bike, black in colour, illegally procured from Burma without any registration number or any valid documents on the very day by observing formalities.

The arrested person and the seized items have been handed over to Sugnu Police Station, where a case has been registered under FIR No. 08(06)2020 SGN-PS u/s 18(b)/60(3)/29 ND & PS Act for further necessary legal action and investigation.
