IMPHAL: Education Minister Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam today chaired a Joint Consultative Meeting for Education and discussed the impact of COVID – 19 on education sector with the heads of schools, colleges, academicians, officials of the Education Department, representatives of the parents and students’ organizations held at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound.
The Minister stated that even though there has been a huge advancement in the field of science and technology, the whole world is still looking for a solution to address the challenges impacting the education sector in this unprecedented time of COVID – 19 pandemic. Seeking suggestions and opinions, he hoped that the meeting will help in finding a solution.
The Minister was speaking at the inaugural session of the Joint Consultative Meeting for Education jointly organised by the Department of Education (S) and Higher and Technical Education to discuss various issues faced by the educational institutions of the state due to COVID – 19 pandemic.
The meeting had a thorough discussion on the modalities of re-opening of the educational institutions in the state, including admission of the students, revision of curriculum and academic calendar for 2020 – 21, conduct of examinations and shortage of teachers and infrastructure among others.
During the meeting, valuable suggestions and observations regarding the resumption of normal academic atmosphere in the schools and colleges were gathered.
The meeting had six technical sessions on different themes – Education Institutions – Re-Opening & Conditionality moderated by Professor M. C. Arunkumar; Admission moderated by Asst. Professor Chinglen Maisnam; Curriculum/Syllabi moderated by Dr. Dhanabir Laishram; Assessment /Examination moderated by Dr. Ch. Sheelaramani; Teachers Shortage moderated by Professor W. Nabakumar and Infrastructure gaps moderated by Professor Amar Yumnam.
Standard operating procedures for organising meeting such as wearing of masks, thermal scanning of the participants, use of hand sanitisers and maintaining a physical distance were observed during the meeting.
