JNV Tuinom students sensitised on anti-ragging laws

Churachandpur: After a ragging incident reported from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Tuinom recently in which Class VI to VIII students were beaten up allegedly by a group of Class XII students, the Siamsinpawlpi, SSPP, a Paite student organisation held a one-day legal awareness programme at the school in association with the school authorities.

The awareness programme was conducted at the school dining hall. Two persons from the district bar association, Advocate Songzamang and Advocate P Khamkhanthuam were the resource persons of the programme.

The resource persons imparted knowledge on anti-ragging laws, RTI, PIL, democratic form of Government and law-making body, conveying that ignorance of law is no excuse.

The resource persons explained to the students about ragging as defined by the Supreme Court and the types of punishment which could be meted out to students inflicting ragging on their fellow students. The resource persons also interacted with the students.

The SSPP General Headquarters President H Thanglalmuan stated that students at the JNV are fortunate enough that the government has provided free education, food and other items to them.

He urged the students to give top priority to study and reminded them that the government wants to nurture them through education. He told the students not to let such unwanted incidents recur in the school in future.
