JNDMA, DGC threatens to surrender certificates

Imphal: The students of JN Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) and Government Dance College (GDC) students have threatened to surrender their diploma certificates on the next day of November 30 to the state government if the concerned authorities do not announce the decision for the enrollment of MA courses at Manipur University of Culture (MUC) within the same date.

Hundreds of students from JNMDA, Government Music College and GDC holding various placards and shouting slogans resorted to a stir on the day at Konung Mamang on Friday.

As a part of the agitation, a mass rally was organised starting from the complex of dance college till A-Block of Art and Culture office of MUC. On reaching the spot, the student shouted many slogans against the authorities. Later, the deputy registrar and three representatives of the union discussed the demands raised by the students’.

A student RK Lenin said that the notification served by the Deputy-Registrar in connection with the enrolment to MA course in dance and music at MUC was not in accordance with the guidelines of UGC.

He said that according to UGC, while studying a subject related with the performing arts, there are no limits in ages and on top of that those students holding a diploma certificates of 3-6 years should be treated as equivalent to graduate, and the same is clearly mentioned.

He further said that under this rules and regulation, many students have been enrolled in different old universities of India. The recently opened MUC should have revoked its stands which are not in coherence with those of other universities of India.

If the demands made by the students of Government Music College, JNMDA and GDC are not turned into action within November 30 then from the next morning the students will surrender their diploma certificates to the state government and are even ready to burn them, the protestors stated.
