IMPHAL: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has decided to initiate the construction of a memorial complex for Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood at Awaching on its own, stating that the state government has failed to fulfill its promises for the construction of the memorial complex till date, even though the promises were made way back in 2015.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held at its office on Wednesday, Convenor of JCILPS YK Dhiren informed that an agreement was signed between JCILPS and state government in 2015 that the financial requirement for the construction of a memorial complex of Robinhood will be provided by the state government but till now it has remained silent. As a result, the committee has decided to take the onus for construction of the memorial complex of the martyr who had sacrificed his precious live for our motherland, Dhiren informed.
He further said that the committee has been organizing the commemoration ceremony and paying homage with the full participation of thousands of people every year on July 8 but unfortunately this year there will be no observance as before due to Covid-19 lockdown across the nation and in Manipur. So, this year the 5th commemoration ceremony will be organized on coming July 8, but with a change in the magnitude and features. Floral tributes will be offered to the martyr in adherence to standard operation procedures and guidelines with the participation of less number of people at a solemn gathering. Dhiren added that the committee regrets all the inconveniences due to change in manner of hosting the commemoration, added YK. Dhiren.
He appealed to all citizens in the state to light a candle at their respected residences in remembrance of the departed soul for peace in heavenly abode. He said that the failure to turn its promises till now by the state government was an unfortunate thing for the entire people in the State and for all the generations to come. He also further appealed to all the citizens in the state to extend moral, financial, and physical support in order to achieve the plan for construction of the memorial complex to be taken up by the committee.
