IMPHAL: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Challou River Villages Disaster Management (CRVDM), Chinglai Block, Urkhrul district has demanded compensation from the state administration to the family of Tuisak Huishuwo, son of Paomi Huishuwo, who was swept away on October 23, 2020 by overflowing current of Challou River at Huishu village.
In a note signed by Secretary JAC on CRVDM Ningchui G.Shatsang and Convener of CRVDM Shimreingam A.Shimray, the committee stated that seven years old Tuisak Huishuwo belonged to a very poor farmer/cultivator who was struggling to support his five children and wife. The boy actually slipped into a swollen river flood while trying to cross a small suspension bridge through a rugged and steep canal.
The search operation is being carried out by 25 villages in Challou region/range till today. However, neither physical nor financial assistance is being provided by the Government of Manipur. This kind of incident happens at Challou River on a regular basis every year due to non availability of proper suspension bridges at all the 25 villages, the note added.
The Committee has appealed to the administration to kindly look into the matter and see possibility for an adequate compensation. If the government of Manipur fails to understand and meet our demand, JAC will further continue to take prudent action, it added.
