IMPHAL: International Women’s Day celebration was held at Central Agriculture University organised by Press Information Bureau and Central Agricultural University (CAU) at the auditorium hall of CAU on Thursday.
The event was graced with a candle lighting ceremony by the Minister of Social Welfare Nemcha Kipgen as the Cheief Guest, Prof. M. Premjit Singh as the Guest of Honor, MSCW former Chairperson Dr. Ch. Jamini Devi as the main dignitaries of the function held.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen stated that gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive. A gender equal world can be healthier, wealthier and more harmonious. The race is on for the gender equal boardroom, a gender equal government, gender equal media coverage, gender equal workplaces, gender equal sports coverage, more gender equality in health and wealth.
She extended her concern in assisting women to be in a position of power for making informed decisions about their health with further alarm that Women’s equality is strongly linked to better overall health and a better society. She urged to bring in solution to the unbalanced power relationships between men and women.
She further stated that it’s important to not only focus on self health, but also on the health of loved ones and others. Womanhood involves encouragement, support and community – and health is one of those areas where women can lift each other up. Make health an easy topic of conversations with your friends and family. Share health tips and concerns. Join exercise groups or buddy up to go to the gym or for a jog. Set goals together and celebrate when you achieve them. Watch out for any warning signs for bad physical or mental health.
She concluded with a motivation to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements and thus collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.
