Tree saplings planted, hand sanitizers, masks, gifts handed out to mark the day
IMPHAL/BISHNUPUR/THOUBAL: As observed across the country, the International Anti-Drug Day 2020 was also observed across the state on Friday with tree saplings being planted, hand sanitizers, masks and gifts being given out.
Manipur & Nagaland Sector of the CRPF observed the day at the auditorium of the CRPF, Langging wherein PMG, IGP CRPF Manipur & Nagaland Sector informed that crores of Indians use drugs.
PMG, IGP CRPF Manipur & Nagaland Sector added that like every year, the Drug Day is also observed under the theme “Better Knowledge For Better Care” and said that we all the people ought to destroy the Drug war.
PMG, IGP CRPF Manipur & Nagaland Sector also urged the different NGOs of the state to rouse up against the use and sales of drugs and further urged the people of the local areas to contact the concerned authority if they came to know about any drug smuggler in their respective areas.
PMG, IGP CRPF Manipur & Nagaland Sector further said that the Drug war across the state can only be reduced if we are able to fully wipe out the drug smugglers.
SP/NAB Wathem Basu, Jibanbala of Kripa Foundation, Professor Dr. Suresh of Manipur University and other prominent persons took part in the observance.
In Bishnupur, it was observed under the theme “Better Knowledge For Better Care” by Bishnupur District Police.
A police team led by SP/Bishnupur Priyadarshini Laishram reached out to different drug rehabilitation centres in the district like Anouba Punshikon Thamnapokpi Moirang, Mangal Drug Rehab Torbung, New life Drug rehab, Torbung and Nulife Center Meitram, Nambol, etc. and gifted indoor games sports items to the women and youths who are now living a new healthy drug free life as an encouragement for a better future life.
As a conclusion part of the observance, SP/Bisnhpur and CSO, Kwakta Municipal Council also held a public meeting at Kwakta Bazaar under Moirang Assembly Constituency with social distancing.
SP/Bishnupur Priyadarshini Laishram, Additional SP/Bishnupur Luikham lammiyo, Vice Chairperson Kwakta Municipal Council M. Ibetombi Leima, Councilor ward no. 8 Abdul Karim, Councillor ward no. 1 Ajad khan, President YKO Anish Ahamad, Convenor MMWO Women Wing Bishnupur Safiya, Advisor MMWO Md. Islaouddin attended the meeting as main dignitaries.
In Thoubal, public awareness rally and distribution of pamphlets to enlighten the public about the menace of drug use were the main highlights of the observation.
Apart from the above scenes, in what could be termed as a much deserving and commendable good Samaritan work, the youths of Parengtong Village, under Machi Block, Tengnoupal District had observed the event by conducting a mass tree sapling plantation programme at the village on Friday.
It is said that the event was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Youth Secretary of Parengtong Village D. Motang Maring.
D. Motang stated that the youths of Parengtong Village unanimously agreed to observe the event. As a village youth Chairman, he frequently explains his village youths minutely about the harmful of using drugs and also about illicit trafficking. They were also briefed about the present day condition of our environment, he added.
D. Motang further stated that by doing so, the youths had changed their minds and had decided to observe the event by planting tree saplings keeping in view to abstain from drugs and save our deteriorating environment.
D. Motang also expressed grateful to the village elders for extending a great help in planting those tree saplings. The youths are now keeping aim to perform such commendable tasks in the future also, he added.
On the other hand, Thoubal District Police with public of Thoubal led by SP/Thoubal Dr. S. Ibomcha organized a rally in connection with International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking under the theme “Better Knowledge for better life” on Friday.
The rally started from Thoubal Wangmataba and finished at Thoubal Police Station.
It is reported that Ukhrul police also observed the event at District Head Quarter.
As part of the observance of International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Imphal West District Police under the supervision of SP/Imphal West reached out to various Rehab centres in the district and distributed hand sanitisers, masks and sweets on Friday.
The Imphal West District Police also shared experiences with the attendees to motivate the public, especially women and youths for a healthy and drug free life.
And also with continuing support, Chairman of State Women Commission, Manipur and IUCAW Imphal West pledged to strengthen cooperation in Crime Against Women Cases especially amongst substance abuse women and juveniles.
On the other hand, Churachandpur District Police with District Administration took out an awareness rally from Churachandpur Police Station to New Bazar area along the Tiddim Road in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observance.
