Thoubal: In what could be termed as a most heinous crime incident, some miscreants threw down a poisonous insecticide bottle into the Slow Cell Filter of Heirok Part – II Water Supply Scheme in Thoubal District.
The Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) of the said Water Supply Scheme had filed a FIR at Heirok Police Station on Friday to nab the culprits in connection with the incident.
According to the Secretary of the VWSC, Khundrakpam Tomba, the incident came to light on Thursday at around 8:00 AM when the Chowkidar (store keeper) of the Water Supply Scheme check the Slow Cell Filter of the reservoir to start supplying water to the consumers for the day as routine work.
The chowkidar found an insecticide bottle marked as “DADA 505” floating on the water in the Slow Cell Filter, he said.
Tomba said that VWSC immediately contacted the concerned SOs and as per their advice started purification work of both the Slow Cell Filter and Reservoirs. All the water has been drained and the re-treatment process has begun. The Committee is trying its best to resume the normal water supplying work as soon as the purification and re-treatment process is completed, he added.
The Secretary termed the incident as most unfortunate and an act of cowardice. The situation might be worsened if the consumers consumed the poisonous water on that day. The Almighty has saved us, he said.
