Bishnupur: Demanding the test results of Covid-19, irate inmates of Community Quarantine Centre at Sericulture Training centre Kwakta under Moirang Assembly Constituency came to the street in front of the Institute and block the Tiddim Road on Saturday.

The irate inmates came to the street and blocked the Tiddim Road at around 12:00 noon as they were not entertained with their Covid-19 test result despite being under quarantine for more than 23/24 days at the institute.

Immediately a team of Bishnupur District Police personnel led by SP/Bishnupur Priyadarsini Laishram along with Additional SP/Bishnupur Ksh. Sivakanta, Additional SP (LO)/Bishnupur Luikham Lammiyo, SDPO/Moirang Sanajaoba, OC/ Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station Kh. Rajen kha-nganba and other police personnel rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation.

After about 20 minutes talks between the inmates and the Police team, the inmates retreated and went back to their quarantine centre.

President of Young Kwakta Organization Anish Ahamad said that the irate inmates coming to the street and protesting and chanting slogans created much fear amongst the people.

He urged the inmates to bear for some time and wait for their result.

Anish Ahamad expressed concerns that if any of the inmates was positive during the protest, one could only imagine how the situation would not have help in community spreading of the virus.

At this hour, it will be right to think and control our temper and mind or else such acts can lead to the loss of their beloved family members and loved ones, forever, he added.

SDO Moirang Ch. Somorendro, Medical in-Charge of the Quarantine Centre Dr. Chingakham Khelen and MO PHC Kwakta came to the centre and had a talk with the inmates and assured to entertain their test results at the earliest.

The inmates also warned of intense agitations if their test results are not entertained by Monday 10 am.

Later, a team of Moirang Fire Service rushed at the spot along the Tiddim Road where the Inmates had protested and spread sodium hydrochloride solution.

Mention may be that there are a total of 130 inmates at the centre since May 25, 2020 (3 inmates since May 25 and other 124 inmates since May 28, 2020) and their test results haven’t be declared till date.
