Inmate flees from QC, arrested and kept at RD Wing Lamphel

Imphal: In an astonishing incident, a male inmate at UHC Thongju, Konok khongnangkhong Quarantine Center (QC) in Imphal East fled from the centre on Thursday around 8:30 am.

Upon receiving the information, a Police team of Singjamei Police Station rushed to the spot and it was found out that the inmate was heading towards Singjamei bazaar through Liwa Road.

According to a report received by The Morning Bell, the police team along with volunteers of the QC chased the inmate and tried to stop, but the inmate became violent and even pelted stone towards the police and the QC team.

The police team and the volunteers of the QC continue to chase the inmate and having no alternative, some police personnel out of the police team put up PPE and overpowered the inmate at Hijam Yaichampat along Indo Burma Road at around 10.30 am.

In the meantime, an ambulance team of the medical department came to the spot and subsequently, the inmate was evacuated to RD Wing Lamphel along with the medical team.

The inmate was identified as Khumukcham Nongyai Singh (44 years), son of Khumukcham Iton of Bashikhong Loumanbi, Imphal East.

According to the family members of the inmate, the inmate is a psychiatric patient and has been under medication since 2 years back, the report added.

Meanwhile, as per the report received from RD Wing Lamphal, the Covid-19 test result of the inmate has turned out to be negative.
